Awards & Recognition

Over the years, STES GROUP projects have received many awards and recognition both nationally and internationally. STES GROUP’s journey has been characterized by a high level of commitment towards innovation. Below is a highlight on some of the awards and trophies.

Rwanda Innovation Challenge(RIC)- February 2020

STES GROUP’s first ever solar car project developed in Rwanda was selected to be part of the first cohort composed of 36 winners of the inaugural Rwanda Innovation Challenge( RIC) which is a scheme established under the National Research and Innovation Fund (NRIF) that is aimed at strengthening national innovation capacity and promoting technology breakthroughs by enabling innovators access much needed technical and financial support in various areas including ideation, developing prototypes, testing, commercializing technologies as well as securing intellectual property (IP).

STES GROUP presented its solutions in the agriculture sector in the African Agriculture Fair(12th-15th May 2019) which was held in N’Djamena,TCHAD,where it was the only representative RWANDA and was awarded 2nd best international exhibitor.

HackAgainst Hunger Award by FAO-November 2018

STES GROUP’s IoT devices for agriculture were awarded among the best solutions in agriculture across the African continent during the HackAgainstHunger which was organized by Rwanda ICT Chamber and the Food Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. STES GROUP team emerged as second and attended the Innovation Symposium(18th-23rd November 2018) which was held at FAO’s HQ in Rome,Italy.

Smart Cities Challenge by GIZ -November 2018

The awards were introduced by the Ministry of ICT, Rwanda Information Society Authority (RISA), the National Industrial Research and Development Agency (NIRDA), and GIZ. STES GROUP’s Bazafarm technology which is an irrigation monitoring solution was awarded among the top 3.

Hackathon for Climate Early Warning by UNDP -July 2018

The Hackathon for Climate Early Warning Solutions using the Internet of Things was organized by the Rwanda Meteorology Agency (Meteo Rwanda) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). STES Group, a team of 4 was among the 3 teams to win the grand prize.
The hackathon targeted the creation of early warning systems for climate change, with the intent of assisting in government disaster response and planning. Rwanda is a country highly prone to disaster, including landslides, flash floods, droughts, windstorm, lightning and earthquakes. According to the hackathon organizers, over 150,000 people lie at risk of weather-related disasters.

Sinhgad Solar Vehicle Championship-India,March 2017

STES GROUP was awarded the best coordination award during an international solar event(10th-27th March 2017) which was held in Pandharpur, INDIA and organized by SKN Sinhgad College of Engineering. STES GROUP designed and built a solar vehicle.

National AgriShow Award by MINAGRI-June 2016

STES GROUP’s innovative projects in the agriculture sector won the best exhibitor awards in the private sector in the 11th National Agrishow which was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources(MINAGRI) under the theme “Investing in Agricultural Innovations for Prosperity”.

Innovating Mobility Ideathon by Toyota Mobility Foundation -September 2018

STES GROUP presented its idea in the Innovating Mobility Ideathon(29th Aug-3rd Nov 2018) which was organized by Toyota Mobility Foundation and Impact Hub Kigali. The idea was of using a solar car for the transportation of dairy products specifically in Rwanda’s Eastern Province. STES GROUP was awarded 2nd best solution among other innovative ideas to help more people and goods go more places efficiently

TVET Expo Award by MINEDUC -October 2015

The Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) through the Workforce Development Authority (WDA) organized the 2015 TVET (Technical Vocational Education and Training) Expo which run fromĀ  2-8 October 2015 and it was themed “TVET, my skills, my future”. STES GROUP was awarded the overall best exhibitor in the private sector due to its innovative projects.
