Given immense opportunities of IoT and Solar in Rwanda, a considerable number of people in the private sector, academia, government institutions, etc.… have very little or no access to knowledge about the concept of Internet of Things and solar and their applications, which is why STES Group aims at providing a tailor-made plan to extend technical training programs to unemployed graduates and other youth to equip them with skills that are more responsive to the emerging labor market in new technologies such as solar technologies and IoT or even be a gateway to self-employment since they would be equipped with hands-on skills through working on different projects.
Until today, STES GROUP has trained in total 171 trainees in Internet of Things and others in solar technologies including 35 self sponsored participants and 11 international participants from the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC).
The overall objective of this training program is to foster the spirit of innovation, entrepreneurship among participants through empowering the youth with hands-on skills in emerging technologies.
FIRST COHORT (27th May-14th June 2019)
There was 21 local participants from different fields’ students, working people, and 3 main instructors and facilitators.During the training, 4 projects were developed which are :
- Server Room AC Monitoring System
- Construction Site Management Syste
- Tracking System
- Smart Security at cell level
SECOND COHORT (8th July-8th August 2019)
There was 11 participants who are Congolese university students in the field of technology. During the training, 2 instructors and 2 facilitators were present.3 project ideas that were developed are:
- Smart Irrigation System
- Attendance Management System in Workplace using RFID
- Early Warning System for specific areas in DRC
IOT MEETUPS IN KIGALI AT DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION CENTER KIGALI
In collaboration with NIRDA(National Industrial Research and Development Agency) ,STES GROUP has co-organized two IoT(Internet of Things) meetups .
These meetups are held at the Digital Transformation Center Kigali built by GIZ in partnership with the governement of Rwanda aiming at developing impact-driven digital solutions, developing the local eco-system capacities, and replicating and scaling-up digital solutions at regional and continental level.
The aim of these meetups is to raise awareness on Internet of Things in Rwanda and to better engage with the IoT community in Rwanda. It is a good initiative that we believe will make the IoT community thrive in Rwanda.
